Kalasagan Asian Jiu-Jitsu Open
by ADMIN on 2012-07-17
Be part of the first Kalasagan Asian Jiu-Jitsu Open on the 1st and 2nd of September. Kalasagan comes from the root word Kalasag which is the traditional shield of the Filipinos long before its colonization. This shield was used by the Filipinos to defend themselves against their adversaries. Just like how jiu-jitsu is used to defend oneself by using leverage and proper technique. A person will be able to subdue his opponent with minimal effort and maximum efficiency. Kalasagan is a friendly venue which encourages competitors to test their skills against each other, shield against shield.
This event is new, bold, and brave as it promises to improve on a number of issues that have plagued jiu-jitsu competitors. The Kalasagan team has promised to deliver proper and unbiased officiating, the right to review matches in question via video footage, referees who are actual practitioners of the art, bracket formations with representatives of competing teams, media coverage, and even boasts beautifully crafted medals and a trophy for the overall team champions.
Several local teams have already expressed their interest in joining this event. Teams like Atos Philippines, Origins BJJ, and Deftac Pilipinas have already guaranteed their participation in the event. This is a good move by the organizers as an event like this will foster healthy competition and in the process help make the art known and grow in our country.
The Kalasagan Asian Jiu-Jitsu Open is a project of the Filipino Martial Arts and Athletes Welfare and Development Association. This non-profit tournament aims to gather Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners from all over the Philippines and around the region, not just to celebrate the art and its heritage, but also to seek their support for its local combat sportsmen.
