We've only just covered half of this year, and Deftac Cebu cannot but be more grateful for yet another momentous event. Last July 30-31, Deftac Cebu hosted the second Alvin Aguilar Seminar of 2011. The two-day seminar was graced by our two home grown black belts, Professor Alvin Aguilar, and Professor Fritz Rodriguez; along with 4 striped blue belt Andrew Laxa.

We were privileged to have Professor Aguilar impart with us techniques that he learned from Prof. Saulo and Xande Ribeiro through his visit at the University of Jiu Jitsu, headquarters of Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu, in San Diego California.

Along with new techniques comes the promotion of new belts, and new stripes for deserving individuals who have trained hard, and represented the team well. Deftac Cebu produced 2011's 2nd batch of new blue belts namely Chino Tan, Lester Cañizares, Mark Pepino, Kurt Ocenar, Kurt Ebarita, Edjie Galeos, and Florence Soliman, Deftac Cebu's first female blue belt.

Deftac Cebu also held its first local purple belt promotion. The recipient, Robert Mellana, was one of the first people who started training jiu jitsu in Cebu. He is now Deftac Cebu's 2nd purple belt.

Professor Alvin Aguilar also awarded instructor and coach, Norman Go with 3 more stripes on his belt, making him a 4 striped purple belt, now close to getting his brown belt. He was also commended by him for the exceptional job that he has done with Deftac Cebu chapter.

With now over 20 colored belts at Deftac Cebu, the team just got a whole lot stronger! Without a doubt, it was an awesome weekend for everybody at Deftac Cebu. Congratulations to everyone who got promoted. Always remember that the price for success is hard work, dedication and determination. There's always more to learn, and always more to achieve in jiu jitsu. So let's continue to grow, and improve! Keep training hard! OSSS!
