Deftac Cebu made history as head coach and instructor, Norman Go, received his Brown Belt from his mentor, Prof. Alvin Aguilar last January 14, 2012 during the Alvin Aguilar Seminar held at Baseline Sports Complex and Recreational Center. This was a momentous day for Deftac Cebu and Cebuano Jiu-Jitsu. Norman Go, one of the pioneers of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in Cebu, is also the first local boy to be promoted to brown belt on the island. Norman, a very dedicated and passionate student of the gentle art, has been doing Jiu-Jitsu for over six years, and has been teaching for almost four years. He has been producing homegrown Jiu-Jitsu champions who have competed in various local and international competitions since 2008.

Deftac Cebu is kicking off 2012 with Vaughn Donayre's victory over Hans Lamanilao of Butuan Extreme MMA. The fight started with both fighters blazing in and exchanging punches when Lamanilao attempts a guillotine choke on Donayre which takes the fight to the ground. Donayre quickly capitalizes on his opponent's mistakes on the ground and manages to get himself to full mount where he starts delivering vicious ground and pound. With Lamanilao unwilling to give up, he manages to get a dismount. But as soon as they got back on their feet, Donayre takes him down again, regains full mount and starts pounding on his opponent with hammer fists and some very deadly sledgehammers to the face. At 3:31 of the first round, the referee stops the fight and Vaughn wins via TKO.
Attention everyone! Please be advised that the evening classes at the Loft (CJRS) Gym will be temporarily transferred to the Baseline Gym. There will be no change in the time, just the location. This will be the schedule up until the renovation of the loft bar will be complete.

Calling all Deftac Cebu members! Baseline Recreation Center is celebrating it's anniversary. To take part in this celebration, Baseline and Deftac Cebu will conduct it's 1st friendly in-house tournament this November 26, 2011 in the afternoon.

Last weekend, Deftac Cebu sent four competitors to represent Cebu and the Philippines in this year's Thailand Open. The all blue belt team consisted of Keeno Jingco fighting at the light-feather weight division (-64 kg), Jiggy Cañiezares at the feather weight division (-70kg), Bryan Espino at the lightweight division, and John Hermosisima at the medium-heavy weight division (-88.3kg).

We've only just covered half of this year, and Deftac Cebu cannot but be more grateful for yet another momentous event. Last July 30-31, Deftac Cebu hosted the second Alvin Aguilar Seminar of 2011. The two-day seminar was graced by our two home grown black belts, Professor Alvin Aguilar, and Professor Fritz Rodriguez; along with 4 striped blue belt Andrew Laxa.
Deftac Cebu achieves another big feat at the 2011 Pan Asian Jiu-Jitsu Gi and No-Gi international held last June 18 & 19 at the SM Mall of Asia, Manila.

Witness some of the best submission grapplers of the region compete for pride and honor in the The 2011 Summit Mineral Water Cebu Grappling Open, a novice, no gi tournament and the country's first ever submissions only tournament.
The legendary Royce Gracie will be visiting Cebu City this November 15 and 16 2010 for the second time in as many years. His visit will be hosted by Deftac-Cebu, a Ribeiro Jiujitsu Association school. While in town, Royce will be conducting a rare seminar on Jiujitsu and also taking time out to meet some of his fans.
Deftac-Cebu will be holding 2010's second Alvin Aguilar Seminar. Alvin Aguilar is a 1st degree black belt under the banner of Ribeiro Jiu-jitsu led by the world-famous Saulo Ribeiro. The seminar will be held in the afternoon of September 11 and 12 at Deftac's IT park gym.
Deftac Cebu has over 53 medals in the three tournaments that it has participated in the past two years, the number of competitors stand at 35, roughly 1.5 medals per competitor. We've been asked numerous times how we are able to pull off such a feat in such short a timeframe. There is no secret to it, it boils down to three things; a good work ethic, a no excuses-policy, and the heart to not just compete but win. All that, however, is not possible without a good, solid team backing you up and guiding you each step of the way.
